The hotel offers an indoor pool and fitness facility. Southern Sun Cape Sun lies in the center of the Cape Town CBD, and is complimented by spectacular views over Table Mountain, Robben Island, Table Bay and the spectacular Green Point Stadium. Dinner at our leisure in the many restaurants nearby.
Sept 3 - After buffet breakfast today we will enjoy a full day Cape Peninsula tour starting with a ride to the top of Table Mountain. Our ride will take us past Clifton Beach and Camp's Bay - two of the best beaches in Cape Town on the Atlantic Ocean. Continue to Hout Bay, the picturesque fishing village from where we will take a boat ride to Seal Island. Continue along scenic Chapman's Peak Drive to Cape Point. At the bottom of Cape Point after you enter the Nature Reserve, you will marvel at the breathtaking view of Africa's southernmost point where the two great oceans meet - the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean. Included is the funicular to the very top.
Next, we will continue along the Indian Ocean side to Simonstown, the charming old naval town, to the beautiful Boulders beach, where the Jackass penguin colony which we will visit is located For a truly memorable view of these endemic birds, take to the boardwalks that lead you over the dunes and vegetation and thread their way through the noisy, bustling colony of birds. Watch them come in from the sea and be raucously greeted by those they left behind, or simply preen and sun themselves. They used to be called jackass penguins, a name that will quickly become apparent as you get to know - and hear - these endearing creatures (because of their distinctive mating call that sounds like a braying donkey, but don't try to touch them, they can be grouchy). There is also a new information center on site.
At the end of the day we will return to the hotel. Overnight at the Cape Sun Hotel. Dinner at leisure to explore the lively waterfront restaurants.
Sept 4 - After buffet breakfast – Choose from 2 options today. Enjoy an included full day wine lands tour, or an optional adventure tour to go Shark cage diving/snorkeling For those choosing our included tour today, you will enjoy a morning visit to Franschoek in the Wine lands and a chance for a wine tasting. Franschoek is the perfect wine lands town with vineyards dating back to the first settlers who arrived at the Cape in the 17th century. Then continue on to Boshendal winery where our group will have free time for lunch on own arrangement which can be purchased from the restaurant at the winery overlooking beautiful scenery. Following lunch, we will enjoy a guided tour of the Boshendal winery and the lavish estate and grounds and a chance to look back into history when the French Huguenots arrived in S. Africa. Late afternoon return to the waterfront for remainder of the day and evening at leisure to enjoy the great nightlife on the waterfront. For those looking for a bit of adventure, you can opt for our optional Shark Cage diving tour (additional cost applies for this excursion. No diving experience is needed and you do not need to have any special equipment of your own. All gear will be provided by the shark company). You will be picked up at our hotel early in the morning (approx. 4am) and driven approx. 2 hours to the launch site of the boat that will then take us on a 20 minute boat ride to the area of the ocean where the Great White Sharks inhabit. A light breakfast will be served at the boat dock before launching the boat. The boat is captained by a licensed experienced sea captain and professional crew from the White Shark Diving Company of South Africa. Once in the Shark waters area, we will be amazed at the sight of watching these enormous creatures as they break out of the water in what is known as a “breach”, which means they jump out of the water and dive back in. It is a true spectacle to witness. Early September is peak season to watch shark breaching activity in this area. We will spend approx. 1 hour watching the breaching activity from the safety of our boat in the ocean Then we will proceed to take turns entering the shark dive cage, adjacent to the boat. (4-6 people will enter the cage at a time for periods of 30 minutes. ). All passengers are given full wet suits by the shark dive company, as well as snorkel gear (the activity is really a snorkel and not a dive and thus no diving equipment or diving experience is needed). Each passenger spends 30 minutes in the cage floating in the water and each time the dive master sees a shark approaching the cage he will give the signal and all can then put their head slightly below the surface of the water with the assistance of the snorkel gear provided to all passengers in the boat and you will be mesmerized with amazement as the shark swims past the cage.
Plan to bring a waterproof camera for amazing photos. A professional DVD will be made of the journey and will be available for purchase from the shark company after the excursion. Our excursion will have us back at the hotel approx. 3pm this afternoon. The cost of the tour including round trip pick up at the hotel and return to the hotel is 1950 South African Rand which is just under $250. This includes:
For anyone that loves adventure, this is a once in a lifetime thrill and an opportunity to see something you will see no place else. Sept 5 - After buffet breakfast depart Cape Town along the famous Garden Route, the 3rd of our 4 sights in South Africa that we will visit, which were listed in the famed book 1001 Places To See Before You Die.
South Africa's Garden Route, offered referred to as “South Africa’s Garden of Eden” is a 200 kilometer drive along the south coast, between Mossel Bay and the mouth of the Storm River through resort towns such as George, Wilderness, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay. It is considered to be one of the most spectacular coastal drives of the world. Here, a rapid rise of 3280 feet from the sea to the peaks creates a sight of rare beauty which combines vistas of The Indian Ocean, lush forests, majestic mountains, scenic rivers, lagoons, golden sandy beaches and dramatic cliffs.
We will travel along the Indian Ocean side past the historic town of Hermanus, the port of Mossel Bay. Our coastal drive from Hermanus takes us along a stretch where it is not uncommon to spot a Southern Right Whale (Southern White Whale) frolicking in the ocean, as they visit the waters near the shores of Hermanus to mate. We will continue on to the scenic town of George, via the Outiniqua Pass and along the Dolphin Pass through the town aptly called Wilderness for its lush green forests. Our day ends in the town of Knysna, the Oyster capital of South Africa. Overnight at the Protea Knysna Quays Hotel. Dinner at leisure at one of the quaint waterfront restaurants in the area, as our S. African guide will suggest.
Sept 6 - After buffet breakfast – We depart Knysna and continue along the great Garden Route via the “Millionaire’s Playground” of Plettenberg Bay to Tsitskamma National Forest, witnessing scenic forests and fabulous beaches. Gaze in awe as we cross the Storms River where photo opps. abound and then onward to Port Elizabeth . Overnight at the Garden Court King's Beach Hotel, Port Elizabeth. King's Beach is the city's most famous beach and your hotel is located right opposite, offering wonderful opportunities for scenic vistas and even stargazing along the beach. Dinner at leisure.
Sept 7 - After buffet breakfast - This morning we will be transferred to Port Elizabeth Airport for a short flight to Johannesburg. On arrival, collect your bags and then we will meet our coach and driver and together with our S. African tour manager, we will travel through South Africa's maize (corn) belt before entering the Lowveld with its spectacular scenery en route to Hazyview next to the great Kruger National Park. Time permitting we will visit the scenic Blyde River Canyon and Johnson/Lisbon Falls today, or - if time does not permit for it to be done today, it will be done on September 10 on the coach ride en route back to Johannesburg. The canyon is the last of our 4 sights in S. Africa that we will visit, which were featured in “1001 Places to see Before You Die”. It is a place of magnificent scenery, rivaling that of our own Grand Canyon.
Overnight at the 4 star Sabi River Sun Hotel where a carvery dinner is included tonight. Our hotel is located along the Sabi River which winds its way into the Kruger National Park - entrance to the Kruger Park is a mere 10 miles from our hotel. Just off the border of the Kruger National Park, the Sabi River Sun Lifestyle Resort offers endless activities including game drives and bush safaris, unrivalled sporting facilities including, 5 swimming pools, 3 floodlit tennis courts, a bowling green, a squash and volleyball court, spa and a jogging trail.
Sept 8 - After early breakfast one of the highlights of our tour will be a full day safari game drive into the Kruger National Park with qualified game rangers. Today you will see a variety of game with a chance to see the Big Five - Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Rhino and Buffalo. Welcome to the internationally renowned Kruger National Park, boasting one of the most diverse game viewing experience in Africa. The group will also enjoy a visit to the historic Skukuza Camp. A stop will be made for lunch at leisure in one of the camps along the banks of the River Sabie. The Lower Sabie Road is famous for its lion and elephant - we may be surrounded by a herd of elephants including mothers, infants and teenage elephants - an unforgettable experience and photo opportunity. This is possibly the best time to visit for wildlife game-viewing as permanent waterholes attract animals, the vegetation becomes thinned out, and trees don't have so many leaves to obstruct the view. Temps. Average 24 Celsius (78 F) and rainfall is low. We will return to the hotel early evening.
Overnight at the Sabi River Sun hotel with dinner included.
Sept 9 - After buffet breakfast, the day is at leisure to relax at the pool, explore Hazyview or take an optional tour. A number of options will be offered:

(only $79 per person for the full day safari experience, providing yet another opportunity to witness the Big 5 in their natural habitat.) -Enjoy a Skyway Zipline Trail as you take the aerial cable trail - experience the thrill of South Africa's longest Cable Trail - over a mile as you slide over one of the last remaining natural forested areas along the Sabie River. Tonight, if you wish, take an optional guided night safari (prices vary) for a most unique look at some of the night time patterns of the wildlife in their natural habitat.
Sept 10 - After buffet breakfast – We will be transferred to Johannesburg via the S. African capital Pretoria. If we were unable to do the Blyde River Canyon on Sept 7, it will be done today en route to Johannesburg - the views are spectacular and rival the Grand Canyon. Also included will be the Johnson/Lisbon Falls and shopping opportunities for local handicrafts, curios and hand-crafted jewelry. First stop on the way back to Johannesburg will be Pretoria for a photo stop at the Union Buildings where Nelson Mandela was inaugurated the first black President of South Africa in 1994. Before arriving at our hotel, we will enjoy a visit to the Lion Park for a chance to interact with the lion cubs, enjoy the opportunity to hold a cub in our own arms, as well as see the rare white lions. The lion cub interaction is a one of a kind, once in a lifetime memory, where you get to hold the baby lion cub in your own hands, in a protected environment. You will never forget this experience. You will also have the opportunity here to feed a giraffe. This is another special experience: You walk up some wooden stairs onto a platform - so you are eye level with the giraffe and you are given little snacks to feed the giraffe. Overnight at the Garden Court Sandton City, located in the heart of Sandton City/President Nelson Mandela Square - one of the best shopping centers in the world. Restaurants are in abundance and food, service and shopping regarded as exceptional. Dinner at leisure.
