.
http://www.africatravelresource.com/africa/tanzania/n/tarangire/?gclid=CJbnqY-q0qcCFUGo4AodpVIT9w
Tarangire National Park has some of the highest population density of elephants anywhere in Tanzania, and its sparse vegetation, strewn with baobab and acacia trees, makes it a beautiful and special location.
In Tarangire herds of up to 300 elephants scratch the dry river bed for underground streams, while migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest and eland crowd the shrinking lagoons. It's the greatest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem - a smorgasbord for predators – and the one place in Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as the stately fringe-eared oryx and peculiar long-necked gerenuk are regularly observed.
Tarangire's mobs of elephant are easily encountered
lions are also spotted frequently in this park.

After breakfast, collect your included picnic lunch, then we drive to Lake Manyara National Park.
We will spend the rest of the day on safari game drives in this beautiful park.
Elephant, giraffe, buffalo and wildebeest can be found grazing in unexpected clearings in the woodlands or heading towards water sources to drink or wash. The rivers and riverbeds provide scenic vistas for wildlife watching.
Stretching for 50km along the base of the rusty-gold 600-metre high Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara is a scenic gem, with a setting extolled by Ernest Hemingway as “the loveliest I had seen in Africa.”.
The compact game-viewing circuit through Manyara offers a virtual microcosm of the Tanzanian safari experience.
From the entrance gate, the road winds through an expanse of lush jungle-like groundwater forest where hundred-strong baboon troops lounge nonchalantly along the roadside, blue monkeys scamper nimbly between the ancient mahogany trees, dainty bushbuck tread warily through the shadows, and outsized forest hornbills honk cacophonously in the high canopy.
Contrasting with the intimacy of the forest is the grassy floodplain and its expansive views eastward, across the alkaline lake, to the jagged blue volcanic peaks that rise from the endless Maasai Steppes. Large buffalo, wildebeest and zebra herds congregate on these grassy plains, as do giraffes – some so dark in coloration that they appear to be black from a distance
Located beneath the cliffs of the Manyara Escarpment, on the edge of the Rift Valley, Lake Manyara National Park offers varied ecosystems, incredible bird life, and breathtaking views. Located on the way to Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti, Lake Manyara National Park is well worth a stop in its own right. Its ground water forests, bush plains, baobob strewn cliffs, and algae-streaked hot springs offer incredible ecological variety in a small area, rich in wildlife and incredible numbers of birds.
The alkaline soda of Lake Manyara is home to an incredible array of bird life that thrives on its brackish waters. Pink flamingos stoop and graze by the thousands, colorful specks against the grey minerals of the lake shore. Yellow-billed storks swoop and corkscrew on thermal winds rising up from the escarpment, and herons flap their wings against the sun-drenched sky. Even reluctant bird-watchers will find something to watch and marvel at within the national park.
Lake Manyara’s famous tree-climbing lions are another reason to pay this park a visit. The only kind of their species in the world, they make the ancient mahogany and elegant acacias their home
Tree climbing lions are often spotted.
Late afternoon ascent up the scenic escarpment and then proceed to the Lake Manyara Wildlife Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Let us invite you to discover one of Tanzania's best kept secrets. Lake Manyara, a small breathtaking National Park with an immense natural richness - home of over 380 bird species, including the thousands of flamingos that tint the soda waters of the Lake pink and the famous tree-climbing lions, which for reasons unknown sleep in the branches of acacia trees.
Lake Manyara Wildlife Lodge is strategically located on the very edge of the vertiginous western escarpment of the Rift Valley, affording magnificent views down across the whole Lake
Lake Manyara Wildlife Lodge invites you to an unforgettable safari experience from its privileged location, unrivalled by any other, both for game viewing and scenery. Elegantly designed as a two-level ensemble of buildings, its authentic traditional African style decorations create a unique atmosphere that perfectly combines extreme tranquility with the best of adventure-packed safari experiences. From its privileged position, all the Lodge's 100 guestrooms have stunning views across the tranquil and beautiful waters of the Lake.
The spectacular swimming pool, situated in a panoramic setting, is a privileged location to enjoy the invigorating fresh air and the breathtaking views of the Pink Lake.
Lake Manyara Wildlife Lodge has 100 spacious guestrooms, each of them with a private verandah boasting a panoramic view of the National Park and the flamingo-colored Lake below.

After breakfast, we will drive through the beautiful Mbulu Highlands and onto the Oldupai Gorge where there will be a brief stop for an informative lecture on the area.
By midday we will drive to the famous Serengeti National Park. Picnic lunches will be served at Naabi Hill Gate so that immediately afterwards, the group will spend the rest of the day game viewing on the famous Serengeti plains.
Serengeti National Park is widely regarded as the best wildlife reserve in Africa due to its density of predators and prey
As well as the migration of ungulates, the park is well known for its healthy stock of other resident wildlife, particularly the "Big Five", named for the five most prized trophies taken by hunters:
The park also supports many further species, including cheetah, Thomson's and Grant's gazelle, topi, eland, water buck, hyena, baboon, impala, African wild dog and giraffe. The park also boasts about 500 bird species, including ostrich, secretary bird, Kori bustard, crowned crane, marabou stork, martial eagle, lovebirds and many species of vultures.
Tanzania's oldest and most popular national park, also a world heritage site and recently proclaimed a 7th worldwide wonder, the Serengeti is famed for its annual migration, when some six million hooves pound the open plains, as more than 200,000 zebra and 300,000 Thomson's gazelle join the wildebeest’s trek for fresh grazing. Yet even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti offers arguably the most scintillating game-viewing in Africa: great herds of buffalo, smaller groups of elephant and giraffe, and thousands upon thousands of eland, topi, kongoni, impala and Grant’s gazelle.
This land is justifiably famous for its huge concentrations of wildlife, especially the big cats, as well as being the stomping ground of the Great Migration, a massive accumulation of 1.5 million wildebeest, 200,000 zebras and 350,000 gazelles stretching their legs over 1,200 miles in an annual race to find enough water and green grass for their survival

Dinner is on own tonight to choose for dining at our lodge or explore in the town of Arusha.
This evening those that have chosen to do the optional 2 day/1 night hike of Mount Kilimanjaro will meet your Kilimanjaro head guide who will give you a full briefing about the mountain and the hike that commences the following morning .
Kilimanjaro, with its three volcanic cones, Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira, is an inactive stratovolcano in north-eastern Tanzania and the highest mountain in Africa at 5,895 meters or 19,341 ft above sea level (the Uhuru Peak/Kibo Peak) Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest freestanding mountain as well as the 4th most prominent mountain in the world, rising 5,882 meters or 19,298 ft from the base
Dec 11
------
After breakfast, those opting to climb the mountain will be transferred with your local professional bilingual hiking guide to the Marangu Gate where after completing registration formalities you will set off on your walking trek through tropical rain forests, characterized by rivulets, with some cataracts, singing birds, whistling winds and various other forest sounds. You will reach Mandara Hut in about 4 hours.
On arrival your mountain cook will prepare you a sumptuous dinner and you will overnight in the mountain huts close by. The huts while not luxurious do provide hot showers.
For those not doing the Mt Kilimanjaro option, they will be at the Moivaro Lodge and/or Karama Lodge with optional safari drive in Arusha National park nearby.-
The closest national park to Arusha town – northern Tanzania’s safari capital – Arusha National Park is a multi-faceted jewel, often overlooked by safari goers, despite offering the opportunity to explore a beguiling diversity of habitats within a few hours.
The entrance gate leads into shadowy montane forest inhabited by inquisitive blue monkeys and colorful turacos and trogons – the only place on the northern safari circuit where the acrobatic black-and-white colobus monkey is easily seen. In the midst of the forest stands the spectacular Ngurdoto Crater, whose steep, rocky cliffs enclose a wide marshy floor dotted with herds of buffalo and warthog.
Although elephants are uncommon in Arusha National Park, and lions absent altogether, leopards and spotted hyenas may be seen slinking around in the early morning and late afternoon. It is also at dusk and dawn that the veil of cloud on the eastern horizon is most likely to clear, revealing the majestic snow-capped peaks of Kilimanjaro, only 50km (30 miles) distant.
But it is Kilimanjaro's unassuming cousin, Mount Meru - the fifth highest in Africa at 4,566 meters (14,990 feet) – that dominates the park’s horizon. Its peaks and eastern foot slopes protected within the national park, Meru offers unparalleled views of its famous neighbor
http://www.tanzaniaparks.com/arusha.html
Dinner is on your own tonight for those not on the Kilimanjaro hike.
Dec 12
------
After breakfast, the hiking group will reach the Maundi Crater then continue further walking up the mountain and reach the moorland so that if weather is clear you will witness the peak of this great mountain.
On a clear day, Kibo will glimmer in the distance, showing off her majestic glaciers in the morning sun. Once you are in the open moorland you will get the chance to see some of Kilimanjaro's most spectacular plants - the endemic giant lobelia which grows up to 3 m in height and the giant groundsel (Senecia Kilimanjari), which can reach heights of 5m
Later return to the Mandara Hut for a hot lunch before commencing your descent early afternoon back to Marangu Gate where your bus will be waiting to transfer you back to Arusha.
Those that did not do the hike will have the option of a canoe ride on lake Diluti or a visit to a local museum and shopping complex.
Tonight the 2 groups reconvene with accommodations once again at the Moivara Lodge or (for those choosing the tent experience option) at the Karama Lodge. Dinner is on your own option tonight either at your lodge or in Arusha town if you wish.
